Laser Hair Removal Q&A

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is an advanced cosmetic treatment for the removal of unwanted hair. Dr. Jain uses the Vectus laser. This state-of-the-art laser uses the Photon Recycling™ system to provide a steady beam of light for fast and accurate removal of your unwanted hair.

The laser system also features Advanced Contact Cooling™ to reduce discomfort during treatment and the Skintel™ Melanin Reader™ that allows the laser light to adjust the setting based on your skin color, which means it’s safe and effective for all skin colors, including light and dark.

How does laser hair removal work?

When passed over the treatment area, the laser light targets the hair follicle and damages it to prevent further growth.

Dr. Jain uses the Vectus laser to target hair on:

  • Arms and underarms
  • Legs
  • Back and chest
  • Bikini area
  • Face

What can I expect during treatment?

During treatment, Dr. Jain starts by placing protective eyewear over your eyes. She then places the laser wand over the area you want treated. The pulses of light pass through your skin to the hair follicle.

Treatment time varies depending on where you’re having the hair treated, but can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour.

You may feel a zap-like sensation as the pulses of light hit the hair follicle, but the discomfort doesn’t last. If needed, Dr. Jain applies a topical anesthetic over the area you’re having treated to reduce pain.

You may experience some redness and swelling around the treated area, but the side effects disappear after a few days.

How many treatments do I need?

For best results, Dr. Jain recommends four to six treatments at two- to three-month intervals. Hair follicles grow in cycles. The time between sessions allows for new hair to grow for more complete hair removal.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal is long-lasting, but you may continue to grow some peach fuzz-like hair in the areas you had treated. To help keep hair growth to a minimum, Dr. Jain recommends you come to the office for touch-up treatments as needed.
