Skin Tightening and Thermage Q&A

What is Thermage?

Thermage is a safe non-invasive cosmetic treatment that uses radiofrequency to improve the look and health of your skin. The cosmetic tool can be used on any skin type and is safe for use on various parts of the body.

The advanced cosmetic system smooths fine lines and tightens saggy and crepey skin.

Most of Dr. Jain’s patients only need one treatment to get the results they desire.

What areas can Thermage treat?

Thermage can be used to tighten the skin on a number of different areas of your body, including:

  • Face and neck
  • Stomach
  • Arms
  • Thighs and buttocks
  • Eyelids

Dr. Jain also uses the advanced radiofrequency system to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

How does Thermage work?

Thermage uses advanced radiofrequency technology to stimulate your body to rejuvenate itself. Thermage targets the deep tissue under your skin to amp production of collagen, the protein that gives your skin its pliability, strength, and suppleness.

As your skin heals following treatment, the new collagen replaces the old to make your skin smoother, stronger, and more youthful.

What happens during treatment?

During treatment, Dr. Jain places the Thermage device on your skin. Initially, you feel a cooling sensation followed by a brief heat deep under your skin and then another cooling sensation. The heat you feel indicates that the Thermage device has penetrated the top layers of your skin to stimulate the collagen underneath.

Procedure time varies, and it ranges from 45 to 90 minutes depending on the area of your body undergoing treatment.

What happens after treatment?

After treatment, you may notice some swelling and redness that disappears within 24 hours. There’s no downtime following Thermage, and you may go back to your usual activities following the procedure.

You may notice an improvement in the look of your skin almost immediately following treatment. However, it takes up to six months for you to see the full effects.

With good skin care practices, including the use of daily sun protection, the results of Thermage can last a year or longer.
